I grew up in tiny Singapore, where driving more than an hour usually meant you'd need a passport. Travel has always been a passion of mine, but I became truly addicted to dive travel after getting scuba certified in Malaysia. That passion quickly grew into a profession. I went on to become a PADI Staff Instructor and an Instructor Trainer with SDI, teaching scuba in both Malaysia and Vietnam.
After completing my mandatory military service and running for Singapore’s national track and field team, I came to the U.S. on an athletic scholarship to study at UCLA. During undergrad, I explored a range of adventure sports—surfing, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, rock climbing, skiing, and hiking—but after a summer trip to Pulau Tioman, scuba diving became my primary obsession. After earning my B.A. in Economics, I started my career in real estate finance in Los Angeles. A few years later, I took time off to return to Singapore and travel across Asia with my then-fiancée (now wife), Lisa Walsh. I eventually returned to L.A. to resume my work in finance while also teaching at Eco Dive Center. When a full-time dive travel agent position opened at Bluewater Travel, I jumped at the opportunity and haven’t looked back. Today, I serve as General Manager and COO of Bluewater Travel and lead many of our group trips. With over 30 expeditions under my belt, I’ve been lucky enough to guide travelers through some of the world’s best diving destinations—Raja Ampat, the Galapagos, French Polynesia, Fiji, the Red Sea, Palau, the Maldives, and more. I’ve traveled to all seven continents and have dived in all five oceans: the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and even the Antarctic. Now, 27 years after first leaving Singapore, I’m relocating back in 2025. Living in Southeast Asia puts me closer to many of my favorite dive spots, but honestly, nowhere is too far when there’s a great dive site waiting. |
